Welcome to the Interviews page, I will be interviewing an author or editor every month, so look out for announcements of who will be featured here. This month I interviewed the talented author Elayne S. Venton.

Kyla: Welcome, Elayne. Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed by me. =) Would you like to tell us what you are working on just now?

Elayne: Hi, Kyla! Thanks for interviewing me.

My second story in the Bonds of Justice series entitled Rapture is currently in edits with Changeling Press. The first in the series, Bonds of Justice: Blade's Decree was fun to write and the second story picks up with Blade's sister, Zara. Rapture is a futuristic love story about a strong-minded young woman who has been captured as a slave and the driven starship commander who rescues her. Although sparks fly between them, the hero is tormented by his role in the death of his wife. Before he can love anyone else, he must wrestle with the demons within. Of course, the heroine is just the person to help him see the light!

Kyla: Tell us what drew you to write erotic romance. Did you expect your career to take off in the way it has?

Elayne: Like many erotic authors, I started out writing mainstream romance and found it limiting. Paranormal and sci-fi/fantasy romance is just starting to grab the attention of NY publishers. Meanwhile, the e-book community is small, friendly, and very supportive. I enjoy the interaction of fans, authors, and publishers. I'm basically a shy person so I'm thankful Changeling Press has taken me under their wing and given me the opportunity to grow at my own pace.

Kyla: You have written in different sub-genres, from Futuristic to Contemporary. What is your favourite to write in and why? Who are your favourite characters?

Elayne: Actually, my favorite genre to read is historical, but when I try to write it, I get bogged down in historical details. Contemporary is fun but very competitive. Science Fiction/Fantasy allows my mind to create unique settings and creatures. Researching new technology is fascinating and can be twisted for my own literary purposes.

My favorite characters are always the ones I'm currently working on because I'm just getting to know them. It's like meeting a new friend and learning secrets no one else knows. I try to make all my heroes strong characters, yet unique. Darwin in Darwin's Theory is a scientist and a loner. Jeff in Diving In is a bright business man in the sultry setting of Key West, Florida. Blade in Blade's Decree is an arrogant, commanding alpha male magistrate. Katar in One Kiss is an undercover agent who's never gotten over the beautiful agent he let go. Kyros, my newest hero, is filled with guilt over his wife's death caused by a drug he created. It takes equally strong heroines, who possess vulnerabilities of their own, to love them. I love them all!

Kyla: Would you like to try something different with your writing? If you would, what would that be?

Elayne: I'm fascinated by the popularity of male/male erotic romance. I'm not sure if I could write it, but I'd like to try!

Kyla: Tell us who your favourite authors are, do you have any recommendations about books we just have to read?

Elayne: Every author has their own style and my tastes are eclectic. In historicals, I love Mary Balough and Gaelen Foley. In contemporary, Suzanne Brockmann's Navy seals really rock. I love vampire stories, especially Elizabeth Jewell's and Kate Hill's series. Any erotic romance by Angela Knight will send me running for my sex toys, and Kate Douglas can put more emotion into a few pages than I manage to put into an entire story. The Changeling Press family is growing so fast, I can barely keep up with all the great authors. Then there are my friends who write for other publishers. My list of favorites is very long!

Kyla: Please tell us where we can purchase your fabulous books and where we can find out all about your latest news.

Elayne: Please visit my website at http://www.esventon.com to find current and upcoming releases. I'm my own webmistress, so the site is updated frequently.

Thank you for your time and best wishes with your writing endeavors!

P.S. The pictures you have of Scotland on your website are beautiful! Someday, I hope to visit.

Thank you to Elayne for her interview answers. Look out for an interview with author Lena Austin in April.

Watch this space for further announcements of who will be interviewed next.
