Welcome to the Interviews page, to read interviews I have had recently go to the bottom of the page and click on the link. I will be interviewing an author or editor every month, so look out for announcements of who will be featured here. This month I interviewed talented author Isabelle Spurrier.
Kyla: Welcome, Isabelle. Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed by me. =) Can you tell us about your new release?
Isabelle: My first release is Goddess' Revenge. It comes out on August 17th with Changeling Press, and is an erotic retelling of the Greek myth of Eros and Psyche. It's an idea I've had beating the inside of my head for a while now, so it was nice to finally get it out on paper! The sequel is called Mortal Retribution and it comes out on September 15th. It's got all kinds of great components in it: forbidden love, divine intervention, the mother-in-law from hell and lots of great ...er.....human/god interaction. ;)
Kyla: Would you like to tell us what you are working on just now?
Isabelle: I'm working on several projects. I have a new erotica series under consideration called The Stone Table (three books, different sort of plot). I also am currently working on two mainstream fantasy series that are nearing completion. I have a couple of short stories coming out this fall with the Jupiter World Press and some new ideas for more Mythos eroticas as well. (Mythos is the series name). I tend to work a lot, probably 12-14 hours a day, so I get a lot of writing done.
Kyla: Is there anything you would like to try in the future that you haven't already tried in your writing?
Isabelle: The great American novel. Who wouldn't? LOL -- seriously though, I would like to get back into playwriting at some point, and perhaps try my hand at a literary novel. At the moment, though, I'm fairly fascinated with genre writing so I'll stick to that.
Kyla: I was reading your Bio page on your website and saw that you write Poetry and were involved in the theatre. Would you like to tell us about this?
Isabelle: Sure! I worked in professional theatre for ten years in the eastern U.S., based mainly out of Florida. I did everything from set design and production work to directing to acting--where I specialized in Shakespeare. I loved theatre, but I loved food more so that changed my career goals a few years back.
As for poetry, I started writing it first (I think I was 7 or 8) and still love it. My poetry is a bit more personal than my prose writing, but occasionally someone sees some merit in it. Although I tend to write more traditionally styled poetry, it generally gets a good reception.
Kyla: Tell us who your favourite authors are, do you have any recommendations about books we just have to read?
Isabelle: My favorite authors generally? hmm.....that's hard. I'm one of those
disgusting people that reads ANYTHING. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan (boy
that sounds weird) and I also like Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's, Dart series -- I think it is a must-read for anyone who likes fantasy and erotica both. She's managed to take what we do and make it mainstream, and her writing style is simply gorgeous. I sat down yesterday and read her fourth book cover to cover -- couldn't put it down -- Kushiel's Scion, which starts her second series. A must-read if ever there was one. I'm also kind of partial to Sierra Dafoe's Devarian series at the moment -- another hard-to-put-down read. I'm looking forward to getting The Adventures of Wonderslut too -- if for no other reason than the title! LMAO!
Kyla: Please tell us where we can purchase your fabulous books and where we can find out all about your latest news.
Isabelle: Easy! You can buy Goddess' Revenge at
http://www.changelingpress.com/product.php?&upt=book&ubid=410 starting August 17th.
My website is http://www.mythoserotica.bravehost.com. I tend to update my website fairly frequently and I'll be running some contests off of it too.
Thank you to Isabelle for her interview answers. Look out for an interview with author Cheryl Wright on 11th September.
Watch this space for further announcements of who will be interviewed next.
