Welcome to the Interviews page, to read interviews that I have had recently or previous author interview that I did for the site, go to the bottom of the page and click on the link.
I will be interviewing an author or editor here every month. This month I interviewed author Beth Kery.
Kyla: Welcome, Beth. Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed by me. =) Can you tell us about your latest release?
Beth: Hi Kyla. My pleasure, thanks for having me on your show. =)
I have two books coming out in November. Battles of the Sidhe 2: FOUNTAIN OF PLEASURE comes out on November 2 at Changeling Press. This was a fun one, with a little warrior action, a little mystery, and a lot of sex…which is not only spicier in the world of the Sidhe, but more…hearty--if you didn't already know, of course.
But seriously, this is turning into a fun serial to write.
EXORCISING SEAN'S GHOST comes out on November 14 at Ellora's Cave. This is a full length novel about an extremely intense-both physically and emotionally-attraction between two strangers. So intense, in fact, that the heroine has to question her own sanity about responding so completely to the hero's dominant, demanding manner in bed. She can only make sense of her overwhelming attraction by rationalizing that her present lover is somehow…mysteriously, her deceased lover.
EXORCISING SEAN'S GHOST is a psychological mind-bender with sex as the instrument of manipulation. Beyond being extremely erotic, it's one of the best love stories I think I've ever written.
Kyla: Tell us what drew you to write erotic romance. Would you like to try something different with your writing? If you would, what would that be?
Beth: I was never really into romantic novels until one day I picked up a Sandra Brown novel in the airport. I guess it was fate that I discovered sensual romance through such a gifted, amazing author. I was spellbound. She wrote sexual tension so well that I was practically slobbering on the shoulder of my unsuspecting fellow passenger on the plane. The one thing about Sandra Brown, however, is that you can't help but wonder what it would be like if she spelled out all the details between the sheets. That's what I aspired to do-still have all of the most important qualities of a steamy romance novel, but with all the delicious details. The sexual tension between the hero and heroine is especially crucial for me, whether an erotic or classic romance.
I've got to continue with erotic romance, but I would love to try a more classic love story, as well. My challenge is to write a romance that gets a person just as hot and bothered as an erotic romance might-sort of like daring to make your boyfriend/husband/partner come with just a feather and suggestive words instead of touch or penetration.
Once thing is for certain, I want both the feather and the penetration in my writing!
Kyla: Would you like to tell us what you are working on just now?
Beth: I'm actually working on a light-hearted, sexy urban romance with sexual content more along the Harlequin Blaze line versus erotic romance. Mainstream romance is getting hotter and hotter with each new release, so I thought it might be fun to try. One thing I didn't mention above is that I love to do a fun romp every other book or so-pure escapist stuff. This book falls into that category, as does aspects of the Battles of the Sidhe serial, GROOM'S GIFT and my historical FLEET BLADE.
In addition to the light-hearted aspect of my WIP, it's an urban romance, as several of my books are. I'm a city girl, through and through. It's fun to try and infuse my books with the excitement and stimulation I feel living in such a vibrant environment.
I also have just acquired an agent for my contemporary erotic romance novel, . This book was a true labor of love and I'm so thrilled to have found an agent who "got" it. Of course, now comes the challenge of selling it and future works to New York publishers.
But I'm still walking on Cloud 9 having found a wonderful agent, so don't remind me of that for a bit.=)
Kyla: You write for a few publishers, tell us how you decide which story to submit to which one.
Beth: Hmmm, well it would be nice to portray that I have some sort of master plan. In reality, I'm a new author-I was only first published at Ellora's Cave this year-and I've done a lot of trial and error. It would have helped if I had an inkling of this amazingly vibrant e-book community, but unfortunately I really didn't. I do know that in regard to the Battles of the Sidhe serial, I needed a bold, fresh publisher. I got a recommendation from friend and talented writer Lacey Savage to submit to Changeling Press, and I have been nothing but thrilled so far with the experience.
Kyla: Tell us who your favourite authors are, do you have any recommendations about books we just have to read?
Beth: In the romance/erotic romance genre, I quite frankly have a lot of catching up to do. I sadly lived in ignorance of the wonderful erotic romance world until several years ago. (Brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?) I love Shiloh Walker, Robin Rothman, Lacey Savage, Lauren Dane, Lora Leigh, NJ Walters, Desiree Holt, Christine Feehan, and Sandra Brown. This is far from being an exclusive list, because I'll probably think of ten more within an hour of writing this interview. I just recently read Sandra Brown's Ricochet and loved it, loved it, loved it.
