Welcome to the Interviews page, to read interviews I have had recently go to the bottom of the page and click on the link. I will be interviewing an author or editor every month, so look out for announcements of who will be featured here. This month I interviewed talented author Alexis Fleming.

Kyla: Welcome, Alexis. Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed by me. =) Can you tell us about your latest release?

Alexis: Thank you for having me, Kyla. My latest release was an erotic romantic comedy called Stud Finders Incorporated from Samhain Publishing. This month I'll actually end up with two books out there on the market. It wasn't planned that way, but someone jumped the gun. Lol I have an erotic romantic comedy called A Handyman's Best Tool coming out on 28th March with Samhain Publishing in e-Book format, with the print version due out in June. The print version of Stud Finders Incorporated had a street release date of 18th April, but somehow Borders managed to get their copies early and it's already on the shelves. Am I going to complain that it's on the shelves early? LOL Not likely! April 28th will see the release of Outback Meltdown, the sequel to Outback Sizzle, from Changeling Press. So April is going to be a full month for me.

Kyla: Tell us what drew you to write erotic romance. Would you like to try something different with your writing? If you would, what would that be?

Alexis: Hmm, what drew me to erotic romance? Have to think about that because I've always written "hot." I just didn't seem to be able to close the bedroom door, not matter what I wrote. Maybe it's partly because I used to swipe and read all my mother's books when I was a kid. Let me tell you, for the thirteen year-old-I was then, boy, were they hot! Here I was, an introverted nerd at school, and I used to soak up those books like there was no tomorrow. Of course, my mom wasn't too thrilled when she realized what I was up to. Whatever I read, though, had to have a romance. I'm a sucker for a happy ending. So when I started writing, I naturally gravitated to the romance genre. Then a friend introduced me to erotic romance, in particular Kate Douglas' work. I was hooked. I was finally able to write what I wanted, without using fancy terms to describe the intimate act of making love.

Would I try something different? I already have! I started out writing Fantasy and Sci Fi romance, then branched out into contemporary comedy. What can I say? I just have this quirky brain that sees comedy where others don't. The hardest job was to get others to see what I saw. But Paranormal/Fantasy and Sci Fi will always have a strong hold on my imagination. In fact, my first Fantasy Romance will be released from Samhain Publishing in June.

Kyla: Would you like to tell us what you are working on just now?

Alexis: At the moment I'm putting the finishing polish on my Fantasy Romance, Emerald Ice, for Samhain. At the same time, I'm editing another erotic romantic comedy. I'm trying to clear the decks so I can start working on a novel I'm writing with my daughter, Kelly Ethan. This one is a paranormal called Shattered Gateways, set around the night of Samhain. One guess where that one is going? Lol

Once that's out the way, I plan on starting the first of three novellas for Changeling Press, all set around the Paranormal Investigations Research Authority. This way I get to combine both my loves: the paranormal and erotic.

Now if only someone could tell me how to get more than 24 hours out of every day. *groan*

Kyla: You write for two publishers at present, how do you choose which story fits best with a publisher?

Alexis: I'm not certain I choose the stories. I think they choose me. I find that some stories naturally lend themselves to the novella length. If I find the story doesn't look like coming to a conclusion within the 28 thousand word count that Changeling Press stipulates, then I keep going, knowing I have a market for it at Samhain Publishing. I find some ideas are more suited to that shorter length, although they are harder to write, at least for me, mainly because my natural tendency is to write long.

Kyla: Tell us who your favourite authors are, do you have any recommendations about books we just have to read?

Alexis: Wow, this is a hard one. If you saw the number and range of books in my office, you'd realise just how hard it is for me to choose just a few favourite authors. If I started listing them all, we'd be here all night. lol I love the dark tones of L K Hamilton's books. She's an automatic buy for me. But I also love Katie MacAlister and Kim Harrison. And if you're looking for erotic romance, you can't go past Angela Knight, Kate Douglas, Dakota Cassidy to name but a few.

Kyla: Please tell us where we can purchase your fabulous books and where we can find out all about your latest news.
