Welcome to the Interviews page, to read interviews I have had recently go to the bottom of the page and click on the link. I will be interviewing an author or editor every month, so look out for announcements of who will be featured here. This month I interviewed talented author Sierra Dafoe.

Kyla: Welcome, Sierra. Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed by me. =) Can you tell us about your new release?

Sierra: Thanks for inviting me, Kyla! Oh my, talk about my book? I guess I can do that. (BIIIIG grin)

I've always been in love with heroic adventure stories (my very first crush was on Erroll Flynn) so I guess it's no surprise that that's what I started with. It's a trilogy, actually, and I'm thrilled that Changeling's publishing all three this summer!

Set in a future where all men are slaves (I wonder why that idea appealed to me?), the Devarian Trilogy tells the story of Soleyla Devarian, a captain in the Nine-Star League's all-female military who falls in love with her pleasure-slave, Kantou. To free him, Soleyla must take on the might of an entire empire -- and to make matters worse, her mother is the First Senator of the Nine-Star League!

So it's both a romance and an action-adventure story -- and it's a mother-daughter quarrel of galactic proportions. =)

The first book is Devarian Exile, which came out May 26th. Next up is Devarian Uprising on June 30th. The final installment, Devarian Revolution, will be released August 4th. So it really is going to be a Devarian summer!

Kyla: Would you like to tell us what you are working on just now

Sierra: I'm currently finishing up Devarian Revolution, and starting work on another book, about which I'll only say that it's a contemporary story with a werewolf.

Kyla: Is there anything you would like to try in the future that you haven't already tried in your writing?

Sierra: All kinds of things! I hate being pigeonholed -- I've written action-adventure, fantasy, horror, drama, suspense… The fact is that the fundamental components of a strong story don't change: vibrant characters, interesting situations, intense, emotion-based conflicts -- and whatever I write, I hope always to provide those. I have to admit, it's been a wonderful experience writing the Devarian trilogy, really getting to develop the main characters over three books… I'd really like to do another series sometime soon, one in which the books are more stand-alone, but still have an overarching storyline that develops over the course of the series. I'm like that -- I want to try everything, at least once! =)

One thing I love about the romance genre is it's not really a 'genre' per se -- it's a love story set in a particular genre, and there's room to do so much! I'd love it if in three years people are saying, "What is that Sierra going to do next?!"

Kyla: I heard you are now involved in the Changeling ezine, would you like to tell us more about this?

Sierra: Oh, we're having a blast. As the new kid on the block, I jumped at the chance to be the official Cheeky Changeling interviewer -- it really gives me a chance to get to know all the wonderful writers I'm working with. The new interview column is called The Hot Spot, where you'll be snooping with Sierra! I love being as 'cheeky' as possible, and ask all kinds of impertinent questions -- so far the authors are being very good sports about it, LOL! This month in The Hot Spot is the Changeling's own wild woman, Lexxie Couper. She's a lot of fun!

Kyla: Tell us who your favourite authors are, do you have any recommendations about books we just have to read?

Sierra: Oh, man. Where to start? That's been one marvellous thing about being 'adopted' into the Changeling family (and that's EXACTLY what it feels like!); I've discovered so many great writers.

I love Lexxie's writing -- it's just like her: wild, vibrant, and very fast-paced. Her third Shifting Lust book is due out this month and I can't wait! I've just recently discovered Renee George's "Beast" series -- they're incredibly good. The writing is fantastic! Angela Knight is phenomenal, and an incredibly nice person -- and her heroes are to die for. Silvia Violet's Shifter's Station books are almost non-stop erotic action -- if they don't make your toes curl, call the coroner!

Mainstream favorites include Ursula LeGuin, Stephen King, Frank Herbert's Dune… I like Nora Roberts, but her Rebellion I absolutely loved.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston is one of the best books I've read in my life, with a romance that's just beautiful and bittersweet in a story that has so much to say. Everybody should read that book.

Kyla: Please tell us where we can purchase your fabulous books and where we can find out all about your latest news.

Sierra: Well, the fourth thing I did (after writing Devarian Exile, finding out Changeling had accepted it, and screaming myself hoarse) was to create Darker Desires, my website http://www.darkerdesires.com I love it -- it's my playground! As often as I can I put up a new free story, there's always a contest going on (right now there's two! My June Devarian Exile contest and my big three-month "Devarian Summer" contest), current news, excerpts… and of course, the Hunk Page =)

I've got to add a blog or a messageboard or something sometime soon -- I love it when readers come and interact, and all I've got right now is my guestbook! (which does work pretty well for short conversations)

Devarian Exile is available here: http://www.changelingpress.com/product.php?&upt=book&ubid=356 -- and Devarian Uprising will be available very very soon from Changeling Press!

And f you'd like advance notice of new releases, newly-posted stories, chat appearances, and contests, I have a newsletter, too --just email newsletter@darkerdesires.com and you'll be automatically added!

Kyla, thanks again for having me! I really am just incredibly lucky to be at Changeling. Like the song says, lovin' every minute of it!

Thank you to Sierra for her interview answers. Look out for an interview with author Silvia Violet on 10th July.

Watch this space for further announcements of who will be interviewed next.

Kyla
