Interview with Kyla Logan
By Danny for the www.cupidslibraryreviews.de
Danny: Kyla, could you introduce yourself to your readers? Who you are, your likes and dislikes, where you come from etc.
Kyla: Hello Danny, thank you for inviting me to take part in an interview on Cupids Library Reviews. I live in Scotland with my husband of many years and our sons. I love the colours on my website, they are my favourites. I don't like the smell or taste of tea. lol
Danny: Why and how did your career as an author start? Is your writing career of influence on your private life?
Kyla: I had been a reviewer for a little while; enjoying the erotic romance story's that I reviewed, when one of my friends said to me that I should give writing a try. She actually tried to get me started for about 9 months before I finally sat down last April and put the first words of New Beginnings onto the computer screen.
Is it an influence on my private life? It's a bit too soon to tell, but I feel I have more confidence in myself. I know for a fact my hubby loves to help research any scenes that I write. lol
Danny: Did you have difficulties in the beginning getting your books published? What did you do when you saw your first book for the first time in online bookstores? Did you have a party? Or drink a bottle of Dom Perignon?
Kyla: I count myself to be very fortunate in that I had my book accepted at Changeling Press on the 2nd time of submitting. When I submitted the first time, it was to see if I had any chance with the book. I got positive feedback and got a wealth of encouragement from Pat Haley on how to make my book more active. I was lucky that when I submitted the altered manuscript she asked to see the full story the same day.
When I actually saw that New Beginnings was up there for sale, I got shivers running down my spine (still do at the thought that my book is out there). Hubby and I celebrated with a bottle of our favourite white wine.
Danny: How long did it take you to write the book? And how did you get the idea for it?
Kyla: I started writing it about this time last April. I never finished it till August, as I have a lot of other commitments that take up a good deal of time. The idea for the book had been running through my head for years. I have a load more that I HOPE to be able to get down on computer soon.
Danny: How do you do your research for your books and where do you get all the plots ideas from? How much time do you spend on research before you start a new book? Is it a continual process until the book is finished?
Kyla: I was brought up on old Sci-Fi programs/films like Dr Who, Star Wars, Star Trek and Battle Star Gallactica. I love to read in the Sci-Fi, Paranormal genre too. I think the idea for Leah and her people came more from watching Battle Star Gallactica. Darius and his people came from my imagination on what would it be like for a shape shifting people to need to claim mates from other races to allow them to have children.
I didn't do all that much in the way of research for the plot because this had been going around and around my head for a number of years. I did have to do a bit of research on the habits of large cats. I found that most interesting. Especially the mating habits of the Jaguar females that is going to make the next book interesting.
Danny: Can you describe one of your typical work days for us? How many hours a day of writing do you average?
Kyla: I don't think I am your typical writer. Some days I don't get the chance to write anything with the other commitments I have. But I do try to clear away some time over the weekends to get down things that have been going through my head.
Danny: How do you handle family and your writing career? Is your family understanding to the time that you have to give your career? Is it sometimes difficult for you? How did they react to fact that you are an Erotic romance author?
Kyla: My husband and sons have been nothing, but supportive Danny. =) They leave me alone when I am in the middle of edits or writing. Hubby just caries on and makes dinner and then gives me a shout when it's done. He is wonderful to me.
Danny: When one of your books gets a bad review, how do you handle that? Are you disappointed or do you try to improve yourself in your next book?
Kyla: I haven't had any reviews from a review site at present, but I just read a very lovely post from a reader who had such nice things to say about my story.
I think that I would take any comments from reviews and work to make the next book the best I can make it.
Danny: When you finish a book, is this chapter closed for you or do the heroes and heroines stay with you in your mind?
Kyla: Darius and Leah are both still firmly in my mind, because they will play a small part in the second book. This is the one about Ashley and her mates.
Danny: Do your heroes/heroines have living models, like friends, family, a romance book cover model?
Kyla: No, I can honestly say that no one in this book is modelled on any of my friends or family.
Danny: What are your favourite authors/books?
Kyla: My favourite print author is Christine Feehan. I LOVE her Dark series. It was after reading Dark Prince about four years ago that I found that there were groups on yahoo for romance and different activities. It was through joining her one that I discovered Erotic Romance Publishers and e-books.
There are too many e-book authors that I enjoy reading that I don't want to just name one or two.
Danny: What is you favorite genre/theme to write books about?
Kyla: It has to be Paranormal. I don't enjoy straight Contemporary books to read, and have no interest in writing one without some Paranormal theme to it. I chose a Shape Shifter theme first because that story was firmly fixed in my mind and had to be told.
Danny: If you could change the place with one character of your book, who would it be and why?
Kyla: Well I think Leah is a very lucky lady to have someone as strong and powerful as Darius in love with her. So it has to be Leah.
Danny: Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?
Kyla: Catari Heat 1: New Beginnings is the story of Leah a shuttle pilot who crashes onto Catari. Darius is the alpha of the Leopai pack, who finds the crashed shuttle at the edge of their hunting grounds. He recognises Leah as his mate the minute she falls into his arms, but he is strong enough to give her a choice in the end. To find out what she chooses to do, you will have to read the book.
Danny: What are your future plans? Are you going to continue to write the types of books you write presently or possibly change genre? If so, what would you cross over to?
Kyla: I am working on Ashley's story right now. I do have more ideas for the world of Catari? actually I could go on and on with the different packs that live there. But I think I will take a break after Double the Pleasure and work on a Paranormal set in the highlands of Scotland. This plot is in the back of my mind, and I would like to get it down while it's so clear.
Danny: Are you already working on a new story? What will it be about?
Kyla: Double the Pleasure, the 2nd Catari book. This is the story of Ashley, who is Leah's childhood friend and co-pilot. She was not really seen much in New Beginnings as she was injured in the crash, but she is going to wake to a very nice surprise indeed. lol
Danny: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
Kyla: Thank you for giving me this opportunity to talk about my writing Danny. I will look forward to seeing it up on the website.
