Prologue

Apart from the scar that Jarod had on his face and the fact that he was the Alpha male of the Jageri people of Catari.

Jeran froze as a feeling of fear overwhelmed him. It was not coming from his brother; the only one he was mind linked intimately with. Bringing his eyes back to focus on Jeran, he saw that his brother had stopped fucking the girl too, much to her annoyance.

"What was that?" Jarod asked.

"I have no idea." Jeran's attention was focused on locating the female who was in fear for her life. The call they both heard was undoubtedly feminine in origin.

Following the unusual path of the call was difficult. He had never felt a mind pattern like this before. She was obviously not of Catari. And if she was not of Catari, she could only be their long awaited mate.

Our mate? Are you sure my brother? Jarod asked.

Jeran opened himself further and let his brother follow where he travelled, in search of their mate. What they saw made their hearts stop.

Their mate was in a spacecraft, crashing onto their world. She was attempting to fasten herself into a seat, but was unable to close and secure the straps that would hold her safe. Jeran and Jarod winced in sympathy as they felt the bones in one of her arms snap when the craft crashed into a forest of trees. Then, with a sharp pain they felt in their heads, the link was abruptly severed.

She'd lost consciousness.

"Which direction?" asked Jarod, in an understandably agitated voice.

"It crashed on the hunting grounds of the Pantheri," Jeran replied, aware of Jarod's growing displeasure at his answer. The Leopai, in particular the Pantheri pack, had been the Jageri's enemies. Now after the call for solidarity with the various packs of Catari, it was a reluctant peace that they had with each other.

Going to their former enemy's lands to claim their mate was not something either of them wanted to do. Especially Jarod! His scar, the result of a friendly scuffle at a joint pack gathering only two seasons ago, was testament to the unwilling truce they had with the Pantheri Alpha, Darius.
